Nigel Dawes operates his clinic at Soho Health Arts in the heart of New York City's Soho district. His personal style of practice is informed by his training in the Japanese principles of East Asian Medicine and incorporates Acupuncture, Shiatsu & Kampo herbal medicine in his approach to patient care.

Bio

Nigel Dawes has been practicing and teaching Oriental Medicine for 25 years. He lived and studied in Japan for 5 years followed by hospital internships in China . Prior to moving to the United States he founded and directed the London College of Shiatsu , and began lecturing at various Oriental Medicine (OM) schools in England, France, Israel and the U.S. Since 1994 New York City has been his home, where he has continued his involvement in undergraduate and graduate OM education and administration, political work in the field, clinical practice, and publishing.

Publication & Research

Kampo: A Clinical Guide to Theory and Practice provides an excellent overview of Kampo in modern society and goes on to present an historical perspective from practitioners in Japan and the west. The book summarizes diagnostic theory and methodology then leads onto a section including 80 principal formulas followed by a therapeutic section organized according to allopathic definitions of disease. Teaching>

Nigel has been involved in education from the very earliest stage of his career. In Japan he taught English as a Foreign Language for 5 years in order to finance his studies in East Asian Medicine. This experience taught him the value of a direct, highly practical approach to teaching, involving self-reflective practice and constant peer and teacher evaluation designed to empower the student.
